Princess: The Unruly Bitch

Approximately a week ago, I carried my dog Princess to jog with me; but that did not work out as planned.

I thought she would have stayed at my side; I was very wrong about that.

Princess, wanted to explore the outdoors; when I went jogging in one direction, she would choose to walk in another; it was as though she was her own little lady — a defiant little lady who wanted to do her own thing.

She had her own way that morning, because I did not carry her with a leash and collar on.

That morning, I felt as though I needed the help of Cesar Millan — the famous Dog Whisperer.

All the other dogs, that I was a loving caretaker for in the past, stayed close to my side.

But, Princess is different; she wants to smell and explore everything and does not want to obey verbal instructions.

That day I carried Princess out (with the intentions of both of us jogging together), I felt as though I would have had better luck with the neighbour's cat.

I know that my friend, Lucie, goes jogging with her dog occasionally; but according to a past post that she did, it does not always work out. 

Apparently, some dogs would rather walk than jog (They can just be as lazy as some human beings).

Some of those dogs that are carried along to jog with their owners probably think, "Hey, do I look as though I am training for the next Olympics? While you run around the place, I would check out these bushes and pee on a few of them."

Oh well, I should know by now that dogs see things differently than we do.

Many of you should know by now that I like to share wonderful things with my readers (And, this without a doubt is worth sharing).

Today, I would like to share with you a wonderful blog that I have been visiting on a regular basis; it is called: Run Mommy Run.ca and the the web administrator for that blog is, no other than, Lucie Palka.

She is a very happy and busy mom from Canada.

She loves red wine and is head over heals with her English Springer Spaniel.

Her blog is fantastic!

Well, the title of her blog should make it a dead giveaway as to what it is about.

Yes, you have guessed correctly; Lucie's blog is about running.

The Issue Of Exercise Addiction

Believe it or not, there are people who are addicted to physical exercise; they engage themselves in it seven days a week.

An elderly gentleman who lives on my street, told me that when he was younger, he used to exercise from Sunday to Sunday.

I am sorry to say that I cannot see myself jogging or running seven days a week (It would be absolute insanity to push my body to the limit).

I believe that people should pay attention to the way that their body is feeling; for example: if one is extremely exhausted, they should stay home and rest.

Even professional athletes are known to have their rest-days; some of them exercise every other day and not on an everyday basis.

I think that if we were to do a high intensity exercise routine seven days a week, we would be doing more harm than good to ourselves.

There is an old saying that states: "Never overdo a good thing!" And, the saying makes a lot of sense to me, because I believe that physical exercise should be done in moderation.

I have heard of professional athletes who overexerted themselves and they died as a result of their overexertion.

I am no professional athlete and I could only imagine what could transpire with me if I were to make the foolish mistake of overexerting myself (I could suffer the same fate as the unfortunate professional athlete who overextended their self until their heart gave out).

Are you addicted to physical exercise? I will speculate by thinking, that the majority of you are not addicted to physical exercise and that those of you who are addicted to physical exercise are in the minority.

The Younger Folks Exercise At A Later Hour

I have been getting up three o'clock in the morning for some years now; it gives me enough time to brush my teeth, have breakfast, bathe and to put on my exercise gear; so I could go jogging or have myself a brisk walk at approximately 4 o'clock in the morning (And, I am fine with that routine).

At the exercise grounds in Bon Air Gardens, Arouca. I have noticed that it is mainly the older folks that get up very early in the morning and exercise.

The younger folks would come out at evening-time to play a game of football, engage themselves in a game of basketball, use the exercise equipment, do some stretches and a bit of running and jogging.

Now, I am very happy to know that many of the youths are getting themselves some outdoor exercise; because these days, there are young people who are only interested in playing games on their computer; therefore, I cannot be displeased by the fact that the younger folks have chosen a later hour to exercise; because they are engaging themselves in physical activities (When I was a teenager, I used to exercise on evenings too and there was no way that I would have entertained the thought of getting up very early in the morning to exercise).

As we grow older, some of us would no doubt, develop the habit of getting up early on mornings and instead of doing nothing until it is time to go to work, we go outdoors, exercise, return to our homes, bathe and prepare ourselves for work.

However, I have noticed that it is the habit of many youngsters to sleep late during the morning period; which is why they would prefer to exercise on evenings.

This goes to show, that the younger folks would prefer to exercise at a time that is convenient to them (And, that is usually in the evening period).

It Is Time I Started Using My Treadmill Again

Today (Monday, 27th October), I discovered that the exercise grounds in Bon Air Gardens, Arouca was in darkness; the tall lights (the same kind of lights that are used at stadiums) were off; under normal circumstances, those tall, bright lights are usually on from late in the evening and they come off at early sunrise.

I planned on doing some early morning jogging (It is something that I like to do before sunrise); however, I had to scrap that plan of mine; for the sake of safety, I decided to walk briskly; to run in low visibility is to risk tripping over an unseen object (And, I don't think that I would like that at all).

I am also a little annoyed that the facility has been in darkness during the late evening and very early morning periods for approximately three weeks (Apparently, there is some type of electrical issue that requires the skill of a certified electrician).

An elderly gentleman who does his exercises at the facility in Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, mentioned to me that he did his workout in the darkness in the past and that it took some months before the lights returned (Now, that is darn insane).

He also mentioned to me, that he doesn't mind exercising in the dark, because he did so in the past; a time when those lights weren't even erected as yet.

I have noticed that a lot of the women stopped coming out on mornings to exercise at the facility (And, I really don't blame them, became they don't feel safe being there that hour in the morning without any lights).

So far, only a small portion of the men are coming out to exercise early in the morning.

When the lights were functional, people would come out to exercise as early as 3:00 AM; but all of that has changed due to the fact that the exercise facility has been under darkness.

I have a treadmill at home; so it is not mandatory that I leave my home very early in the morning with the intentions of jogging.

For the time being, I could boycott the exercise facility in Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, until the lights are functional.

I will continue to do my early morning exercise; but instead of doing it at the facility in Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, I will do it at the comfort of my home on my treadmill.

Not Knowing What Day It Is

Recently, I met a friend of mines dressed in his exercise gear and he looked as though he could have jumped back into his bed.

"Good morning, " I said smiling and wondering why he was now stepping out to exercise when I had just completed my exercise regime.

We were accustomed to seeing each other on the running field a few minutes apart; however, that day, things were different.

He laughed and said, "I thought that today was Sunday; I was wondering why my children had gotten up early and were busy around the house and then I realized that it was Monday."

I laughed along with him, thinking that what he had went through was a bit funny.

My friend, Steve is a retired teacher (And, when one is retired, they are not obligated to know what day of the week it is).

We exchanged pleasantries and then we headed our separate ways.

From my perspective, I believe that it is possible to lose track of what day it is; for quite sometime, I have relied on my smartphone to inform me of what the date and the time is (I rarely look at calendars and I would be at a total loss if I didn't have my smartphone).

I am sure of the fact that some of you have made the mistake into thinking that it was a certain day, when in reality, it was some other day of the week; there is no need to be embarrassed about that, because it happens to the best of us.

Engaging In Mind Games

I clearly remembered that sometime last week, I had to find that inner motivation to go the extra mile (and that was both figuratively and literally); I was doing my early morning jogging and my mind wasn't up to the task, so I started playing a mind game with myself; I thought about something pleasant; which was: me blogging on my computer and it worked; I ended up jogging a further distance than I usually do.

In the past, I visualized my legs and arms moving faster while I jogged and a few moments after, I picked up a momentum.

The day when I placed the image of myself blogging on my computer in my mind, was the day when I felt like not exercising at all; so visualizing myself jogging faster and going the extra distance would have been counterproductive.

The secret is: to think of something that would put you in a positive frame of mind.

Mind games do work and it is all about self-motivation.

The Internet Is Saturated With Weight Loss Methods

It is no big guess that countless people are interested in managing their weight; some want to lose the excess weight, while there are those who follow the exercise and diet trend with the intentions of toning up their muscles and remaining slim.

The weight loss industry have realized that people are interested in their bodies and have saturated the market with their weight loss products.

Their advertisements rarely go unnoticed, since they are on all facets of the media.
 
Some diets may work for some people, while there are those who do not see any positive results regardless of what diet plan they are on.

Then there are those weight loss drugs that are supposed to work whether or not a person chooses to restrict their calorie intake.

Many people have disregarded the fact that a lot of the weight loss drugs on the market have side effects and they take them at their own risk; sometimes jeopardizing their own health in the process.

In today's society, plus-sized people are frowned upon by others for carrying around their excess weight.

And, unfortunately, the beauty and fashion industries have brainwashed the masses into accepting their idea of the perfect weight.

So, until people learn to love and accept themselves as they are, the weight loss industry will continue to make huge profits.

It's Another One Of Those Mondays

Honestly, there are times when I don't feel like getting up early in the morning to exercise; especially when I have stayed up late the night before.

Exercise, like any other activity, is done out of discipline.

I went jogging early on Sunday; so if I want, I can brush away the idea from my mind, regarding the exercise routine.

As I have said in a post post, it all depends on the way my body feels and that I should always pay closer attention to my bodily intelligence; which means: no forcing myself to exercise if it points out that I need to rest.

So far, I am feeling rather well and it looks as though it is going to be another one of those Mondays; where everything works out for the best, on and off of the field.

Today I Am On The Lookout

Today, I am on the lookout for my friend, Ghost; I haven't seen him since the 2014 World Cup ended. The gentleman was kind enough to lend me three of his DVDs to watch and I have been looking out for him to return his DVDs ever since.

We usually see each other on the track on mornings; but since the weather was somewhat rainy, he decided to stay inside his house — a place where it is warm and dry.

I found it funny, that he came out on the track to exercise the day I chose to stay home and rest.

Now, I am going on the track not because I want to jog; I am going on the track to return what is his; however, once I am there, I can't change my mind about exercising; I will merely get myself a reasonable quota of exercise. If I don't want to jog, there is always the option of brisk walking.

Just One Of Those Days

Today, I wasn't in any mood to jog; but I did it anyway.

Usually, when our body says that it is not in any mood for exercise, we should listen (In my case, it was more mental; I had to psychologically convince myself to hit the damp tracks).

Also, before I go out to do any sort of exercise, I usually listen to an hour of Electronic Dance Music (For some strange reason, I did it the other way around today; I guess that this is what happens when one is feeling out of sorts).

I have no regrets of going out to exercise this morning; however, I believe that a day off from that activity would of been in my best interest.

Whenever we are about to do something, there mustn't be any type of inner conflict; we must be in such a powerful state where we have the full backing of our physical, mental and spiritual faculties.

Don't Blame It On The Rain

A person once said to me, "If it rains, I am staying at home; I am not coming out to exercise."

I looked them straight in their eyes and replied, "I will be out on the track, whether it rains or not."

Their response to that answer was, "You are young, you can afford to get wet, " they paused briefly and continued with their trend of thought, "If I were to get wet in the rain, I would be sick for days and I would have to visit the doctor and have him prescribe something for my cold."

I thought to myself that he was rather unlucky and that he could not have fun like me in the rain.

After making those numerous laps around the field in the rainy weather, I would go straight home and remove my wet clothing; it is that simple for me and no cold would come knocking on my door, asking for me by name.
 
I was thinking: if a person follows a healthy diet plan, rests well and gets lots of exercise,  their immune system should be in a position to fight off any cold or flu in the same manner that a soldier in the special forces would handle their opposition in enemy territory.

The person who told me that they were not going to exercise in the rain is an exercise addict.

I also found out (through casual conversion) that they don't get much sleep at night, because they are up late watching sports on television.

So, I think that the rain is not the culprit; the problem is most likely a case of them not getting adequate rest; which in turn depletes their immune system severely.

I always liked the rain and when I was a child I used to go outside as soon as it started to rain and I never got sick.

The only issue is: the soggy running shoes; when they are soaked, they make that annoying squishing sound.

An Incentive To Get Out Of Bed

Earlier today, I found it somewhat challenging to get out of my bed to exercise on a Sunday. I thought to myself: "After my exercise routine, I will photograph something interesting and post it for my viewers to see." The truth is: if it was only for the sake of exercise, I wouldn't have left my house; I probably would have gone back to sleep or engage myself in the pleasures of updating the posts on my blog.

For quite sometime, I have made it a habit of mines to awake at 3:00AM daily (And, that is when the mind-game begins).

Do you you use a method that motivates you to get out of bed on mornings? Actually, most people don't and they are not going to leave their house that early in the morning unless their home is on fire (Now, let us hope that it will never reach to that).

In the end, it all works out well for me; my body gets the needed exercise and I get the photographs that I have been yearning for.
